Ennis Public Theatre announces auditions for “The Snow Queen”

The Ennis Public Theatre will hold auditions for its upcoming production of Ron Nicol’s “The Snow Queen” from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21.
An adaptation of the Hans Christian Andersen tale, “The Snow Queen” tells the story of Gerda, a little girl who searches for her friend Kai when he is bewitched and imprisoned by the Snow Queen in her ice palace. Gerda’s innocence charms the people and animals she meets on the way, and they help her to the royal court, and on to Lapland, where good conquers evil and the children are reunited.
The production, which is under the direction of Julie Mitchell and Markus Baldwin, will feature seven performances:
• Dec. 5, 6, 11, and 12 at 7:30 p.m.
• Dec. 7, 13, and 14 at 2:30 p.m.
• Tech will be held Nov. 30-Dec. 3
The first rehearsal will be a full cast read-through from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, with the remainder of the rehearsal schedule to be announced.

“We welcome all ages, 8-99, to audition for ‘The Snow Queen,’ ” a spokesman said. “This show is a very theatrical retelling of the fable of ‘The Snow Queen.’ It is designed to be theatre for young audiences, which means that actors of all ages are telling a story created to entertain and inspire audiences of all ages, including our young theatre-goers.”
Script excerpts will be provided to prospective actors to look over in the lobby before reading through the scene.
Characters to be cast:
The following are the ages and genders as written, but the playwright allows changes such as the grandmother could be a grandfather, the Lapp woman could be a Lapp man, and adult, teen, and child actors can play any character.
• trolls – can be any gender or age; one troll is specifically “old” and serves as the narrator
• Gerda – female, age 10-18
• Kai – male, age 10-18 (could possibly be changed to female)
• grandmother/grandfather – adult
• Snow Queen – teen/adult female
• crow – any age or gender
• robbers – young, any gender
• robber girl – young female
• old hag – adult
• reindeer – any age or gender
• Lapp woman (Lapp man) – teen/adult
• Finn woman (Finn man) – teen/adult
• ice attendants – any age or gender
