Zarate announces run for Ellis County district clerk
POLITICAL ANNOUNCEMENT – Jennifer Zarate, a sixth-generation Texan and Waxahachie resident, has announced her candidacy for Ellis County District Clerk. She will be on the ballot in the upcoming Republican primary election in March of next year.
Zarate is running to provide efficiency, transparency and accountability. As our community grows, so do the demands on our court system. Zarate brings the knowledge, leadership, and expertise Ellis County needs to keep pace with that growth.
The District Clerk’s office is the backbone of our judicial system,” said Zarate. “I believe the citizens of Ellis County deserve a clerk who is committed to modernizing services, safeguarding records and treating every person with fairness and respect.”
With more than thirty years of legal experience working in one of the largest metropolitan court systems in the country, Zarate has both criminal and family law experience with substantive work in child protective services, child support, juvenile justice, and mental health. Zarate brings a proven record of leadership and service. She is currently the Vice Chair of the Ellis County Republican Party and was elected to serve as a member of the Ellis Appraisal Board of Directors in 2024.
If elected, Zarate plans to:
- Streamline administrative processes to save taxpayer money and reduce wait times;
- Increase public access to court records and services through modern technology; and
- Uphold the highest standards of accountability and public trust.
“I’m running for District Clerk because I care deeply about our community and believe we can do more to make local government responsive and efficient,” Zarate added. “Together, we can ensure the District Clerk’s office works for everyone.”
A native Texan, Zarate graduated from Hillcrest High School in Dallas, earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Human Development and Family Studies from Texas Tech University and completed post-graduate work in an American Bar Association certified paralegal program. Zarate and her husband Eric love living in Ellis County, where they have built a life together over the past two decades.
