SB 2878 passes; Ellis County's new 504th district court only awaits governor's signature
Late Sunday afternoon, June 1, the Texas House of Representatives passed Senate Bill 2878 in a 136-2 vote. The omnibus courts and judiciary bill had come down to the wire, with June 1 the deadline for its passage.
As passed, the bill includes the new 504th Judicial District Court, which will join Ellis County's other three district courts. The measure now goes to the governor's office for his signature. The bill assigns the new court a creation date of Sept. 1, 2025.
