Press release from Rep. Brian Harrison on his bills to eliminate property taxes

July 14, 2025 – Austin, TX: On the first day of bill filing for the first special session of the 89th legislature, Rep. Brian Harrison answered the call of millions of Texans and filed multiple bills to empower taxpayers and eliminate property taxes. Each of these bills were all killed by liberal House “leadership” during session.

Statement from Representative Brian Harrison:

“Property taxes are unethical, immoral, and must be abolished! I'm proud to have helped force them to be included on the special session agenda. Today, I am again filing nine bills and one constitutional amendment to empower taxpayers and eliminate property taxes. The fact the Governor was forced to call a special session for property taxes is proof I was right that we did nothing serious about them this session. We must not allow the Austin uniparty’s “property tax relief” scams to continue in a special session, and I will hold their feet to the fire. We must put Texas taxpayers first!”

Background:

After the disastrous 89th legislative session where nothing was done to relieve Texans from the crushing burden of property taxes, Rep. Brian Harrison was the first elected official to demand Governor Abbott call the legislature back to eliminate them. Rep. Harrison hears daily from constituents and Texans all across the state that they are being taxed out of their homes and are demanding that their elected officials stop gaslighting the public about “historic property tax relief” and finally eliminate them completely.
