Men’s Woodworking Team taking on projects with Arabella of Red Oak residents

RED OAK – A group of men, a handful of tools, and a pile of weathered patio chairs – welcome to the Men's Woodworking Team at Arabella of Red Oak. Since June, three to six men have been meeting at least twice a month – or whenever a project arises – to tackle hands-on projects that get them moving, thinking, and working together.

The group’s current mission is the restoration of the community’s patio rocking chairs, which had taken a beating from the elements. The team carefully sands and smooths each chair, turning worn wood into pieces ready for use once again.

“These projects give our residents the chance to try something new and stay active,” said Janet Foran, executive director of Arabella of Red Oak. “Watching the men plan a project, solve problems, and finish with something they can be proud of shows that creativity and effort have no age limit. Every chair they restore tells a story of focus, teamwork, and hands-on work.”

For anyone thinking of picking up woodworking, the team has a simple motto: Keep moving, try new projects, and do what you enjoy.

For their part, the residents have shared, “You are never too old to start something new. Just keep your body moving.”
