Managing diabetes: Choose your way free workshop

Waxahachie, TX – Individuals living with type 2 diabetes or supporting loved ones affected by the condition are invited to attend Managing Diabetes: Choose Your Way, a free educational event hosted by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service in partnership with the Waxahachie Senior Center.
The one-day session will take place on Saturday, August 2, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Waxahachie Senior Center, located at 122 Park Hills Drive, Waxahachie, TX 75167. Lunch will be provided for all pre-registered attendees.
Led by Danae Hicks, Ellis County Extension Agent for Family and Community Health, and Julie Mendenhall, a certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist, the program offers participants simple and sustainable strategies to manage type 2 diabetes effectively. Topics include:
● Understanding how food choices impact blood glucose
● Managing carbohydrates
● The role of physical activity in blood sugar control
● Enjoying favorite foods—yes, even dessert!—while managing diabetes
“This event is for anyone impacted by type 2 diabetes—whether you're managing it yourself or helping someone you care about,” said Hicks. “Our goal is to make diabetes education approachable, practical, and even a little fun.”
