Farmers market feature: Beth’s Door Décor
For Beth Cheatwood, handcrafting wreaths is an act of love.
The almost octogenarian is the owner of Beth’s Door Décor, and she’s entering her third season as a part of the Waxahachie Farmers Market.
“I’m a God-based business,” she said. “It’s an expression of my faith. It’s what I do.”
It was that faith that got her through the pain and loss of her daughter in 2013, and that’s when she began crafting. Over the next few years, she would go on to help raise more than $160,000 for cancer research before stepping away for several years for some time to herself.

She’s since taken up her booth at the farmers market, where she recently shared with In The Know Ellis the rewards of her small business: “It keeps me busy, and it keeps me happy.”
Cheatwood creates her own designs and also does custom work to fulfill customer requests, such as a welcoming wreath for someone’s new granddaughter. In addition to her wreaths and custom work, she also offers small signs and meat glazes.
“I started out (at the farmers market) with one table of signs and eight wreaths, and then it got kind of busy,” she said, noting a point of pride in keeping her prices affordable.

Having recently expanded her booth from one to two spaces, Cheatwood says she’s no plans to retire: “I believe in wearing out, not rusting out!”
