Ennis Main Street program awarded national accreditation
The city of Ennis recently announced that its Main Street program has been recognized as an Accredited Main Street America program for 2026.
“This is the highest national recognition awarded to Main Street program and it highlights the incredible dedication of our staff, board, volunteers, business owners, and community partners who work every day to keep Downtown Ennis thriving,” the city announced via its social media channels.
Accreditation is the national program’s highest level of recognition and is awarded annually to communities that meet six rigorous performance standards:
• Broad-based Community Commitment to Revitalization: Fosters a culture of inclusion, collaboration, and shared ownership from public and private sectors.
• Inclusive Leadership and Organizational Capacity: Ensures the local organization is well-structured, diverse, and representative of the entire community.
• Diversified Funding and Sustainable Program Operations: Maintains adequate revenue streams to keep the program and its staff properly resourced.
• Strategy-Driven Programming: Utilizes meaningful market research and community input to guide activities across the “Four Points:” Organization, Economic Vitality, Design, and Promotion.
• Preservation-based Economic Development: Leverages historic and cultural assets to make the district unique, preserving buildings and heritage while boosting the local economy.
• Demonstrated Impact and Results: Tracks and communicates specific quantitative and qualitative metrics to prove the program's value to stakeholders.
“This accreditation celebrates our commitment to historic preservation, economic vitality, community engagement, and creating a downtown where locals and visitors feel connected, welcomed, and inspired,” the city’s social media post reads.
Across the nation, 838 communities were honored, with Ennis one of only two accredited Main Street programs in Ellis County, the other being the city of Waxahachie.
