Ellis County Veterans Treatment Court awarded $200,000 grant
The Ellis County Veterans Treatment Court was announced Tuesday as the recipient of a $200,000 grant. The specialized court is offered through the 378th Judicial District Court, Judge William Wallace presiding.
The Ellis County grant was part of more than $7.7 million in grant funding distributed by the governor’s office to 28 organizations in the north Texas region. The funding is expected to serve almost 5,000 veterans.
“Texas will always support the brave men and women who fought for the freedom and liberties we enjoy today,” Gov. Greg Abbott said in a statement. “These grants will provide crucial support and services to veterans and their families in the DFW area. We are proud to support our nation's heroes and help them prosper for generations to come.”
Other recipients included the cities of Dallas ($273,000) and Fort Worth ($640,000), and Collin ($950,000), Dallas ($400,000), Denton ($327,000), and Tarrant ($397,000) counties.
Also receiving funding were:
• Canine Companions for Independence: $300,000 for its service dog program
• Citizens Development Center: $201,000 for trade skills training
• Denton County MHMR Center: $150,000 for non-clinical mental health services
• Equest: $120,000 for clinical counseling
• Family Pathfinders of Tarrant County: $136,000 for financial assistance
• Garland Area Habitat for Humanity: $250,000 for housing
• Jake E’s Riding Round Up: $135,000 for clinical counseling
• Meals on Wheels and Senior Services: $147,000 for meal services
• Meals on Wheels of Tarrant County: $300,000 for housing and $315,000 for meal services
• Npower: $300,000 for trade skills training
• Patriot Paws Service Dogs: $400,000 for service dog program
• Pecan Valley MHMR Region: $400,000 for clinical counseling and $275,000 for financial assistance
• Spay Neuter Network: $300,000 for pet lodging and veterinary care
• Tarrant County: $397,000 for veterans treatment court
• Texas Neighborhood Services: $250,000 for financial assistance
• Texoma Council of Governments: $100,000 for financial assistance
• The Visiting Nurse Association for Texas: $75,000 for meal services
• United Way of Tarrant County: $200,000 for elder care
• Veterans Healthcare Alliance: $30,000 for trade skills training
• Volunteers of America Texas: $275,000 for financial assistance
Since 2009 through the 2026-27 grant cycle, more than $400 million in funding has been awarded through 1,790 grants supporting a wide range of services.
