Early diagnosis makes a difference in Alzheimer’s care

Ellis County, TX — Early detection of Alzheimer’s and dementia can significantly improve outcomes for individuals and their families, and the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service urges Ellis County residents to recognize the importance of early diagnosis.
“Identifying Alzheimer’s in its early stages allows individuals to access treatments that may slow progression, plan for the future, and connect with vital resources,” said Danae Hicks, Family and Community Health Agent for Ellis County.
Early diagnosis not only benefits the person with Alzheimer’s but also helps caregivers and families prepare for the challenges ahead. It provides an opportunity to establish a support system, make legal and financial arrangements, and participate in clinical trials that may offer innovative treatment options.
Signs to watch for include memory loss that disrupts daily life, difficulty completing familiar tasks, and confusion with time or place. Other warning signs include changes in mood or personality, problems with language, and withdrawal from social activities.
Ellis County hosts a Alzheimer’s and Dementia Caregiver Support Group on the second Tuesday of each month from 5 pm-6pm at the Central Presbyterian Church (402 N College St. Waxahachie, TX 75165). For more information reach out to Marie Gardner at 214-450-3849.
“If you or a loved one notice these symptoms, don’t ignore them,” Hicks advised. “Seek medical advice promptly to explore options for diagnosis and care.”
