City of Ennis announces road closures related to Bluebonnet Festival

In support of the Bluebonnet Festival and associated activities, the city of Ennis will undertake a series of temporary road closures beginning Monday, April 13, to allow for the safe setup and operation of the carnival, the Ennis Bluebonnet Run, and various activities leading into the 74th annual Bluebonnet Festival, which officially begins Friday, April 17.

“These closures are necessary to ensure pedestrian safety, accommodate 5K and 10K runners and carnival equipment, and prepare our downtown area for the weekend’s Bluebonnet Festival events,” according to a city media release.

Road Closure Schedule & Impacted Areas:

Starting Monday, April 13, at 6 a.m.:

• Roads surrounding the carnival setup area will be closed, including:

• West Baylor Street: North McKinney Street to Northwest Main Street

• North Dallas Street: West Belknap Street to West Baylor Street

These roads will remain closed through the duration of the carnival and festival.

Starting Friday, April 17, at 6 a.m. festival weekend:

• Additional closures will go into effect to support the Bluebonnet Market, festival traffic, vendors, and foot traffic safety, including:

• Zone 1: North Dallas Street from West Knox Street to West Baylor Street

• Zone 2: North Dallas Street from West Knox Street to West Ennis Avenue

• Zone 3: West Knox Street from North McKinney Street to North Dallas Street

• Zone 4: West Knox Street from North Dallas Street to Northwest Main Street

• Zone 5: Northwest Main Street from West Baylor Street to West Knox Street

• Zone 6: Northwest Main Street from West Knox Street to West Ennis Avenue

• Zone 7: North McKinney Street from alley 2 to alley 3

• Zone 8: Parking lot at North McKinney Street and West Knox Street

• Zone 9: West Baylor Street from Northwest Main Street to North McKinney Street

• Zone 10: Parking lot at Northwest Main Street and West Baylor Street

• Zone 11: Northwest Main Street from West Baylor Street to West Belknap Street

• Zone 12: West Ennis Avenue from Northwest Main Street to North McKinney Street

These roadways will remain closed for the duration of the Bluebonnet Festival.

Starting Saturday, April 18, at 6:30 a.m.:

• Additional closures will go into effect to support the Ennis Bluebonnet Run route:

• Yorkstown Drive: Avenue Church driveway to Jeter Driveway

• Williamsburg Drive: Yorkstown Drive to West Baldridge Street

• West Baldridge Street west of Jeter Drive

These roadways will only remain closed during the actual run event.

• In support of the Farmers Market and additional Bluebonnet Festival activities, the following closures will also be implemented:

• Zone 13: South Dallas Street from Ennis Avenue to West Brown Street

• Zone 14: West Brown Street from Southwest Main Street to South Dallas Street

These roadways will only be closed on Saturday.

Additional information:

In the days leading up to the event, residents may notice an increased police presence and safety personnel throughout the select areas, as well as cones, signs, flags, and barriers marking the run course and setting up equipment for the weekend’s activities. The Bluebonnet Festival officially begins Friday and runs through the weekend.

Detour signage will guide motorists around the closure areas. Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead, expect potential delays, and use alternate routes when possible.

“Events like the Bluebonnet Festival bring our community together, allow visitors to experience the true Bluebonnet Spirit, and support our local businesses and economy,” said City Manager Andrea Weckmueller-Behringer. “We are grateful to our citizens for their patience and their understanding that the temporary closures will help us keep everyone safe, while we all enjoy a fun-filled Bluebonnet Festival weekend.”
