Birdwell statement on U.S. Senate confirmation

To the Citizens of Texas Senate District 22:
Today, the full U.S. Senate voted to confirm several nominees on the slate of nominations from President Trump placed before them. I’m pleased to report that my nomination to serve as Assistant Secretary of War for Sustainment was confirmed in that vote. I would like to extend my personal thanks to Senators John Cornyn and Ted Cruz for shepherding my nomination through both the committee and full Senate process.
I am now in the final period of my service to you just before I take the oath of office and begin my service at the Pentagon. Let me again thank you for the privilege and honor of serving you for nearly 16 years in the State Senate. Mel and I will be forever grateful for this great honor, and the many friendships made along the way.
As I prepare to depart, please know that there will be a functioning SD 22 state senate office and constituent services will continue. Staff members will remain in place both in district and in the capitol to assist you until the new senator arrives.
I ask your prayers for my future duties and that you keep our next state senator in your prayers for wisdom as they serve the district. Farewell and God bless you; God bless Texas and God bless the United States of America! Hooah!
