Battle of the Badges: Local heroes face off in friendly competition for a cause

Waxahachie, TX – It’s time to rally behind your local heroes! The first annual Battle of the Badges Car Seat Inspection Competition kicks off in Ellis County for an exciting two-day event of passenger safety and friendly rivalry between our first responders.

This year's event will take place on September 24th from 4-6 PM at the Ennis Fire Department (1700 W Lake Bardwell Dr., Ennis, TX 75119), and September 25th from 4-6 PM at Hope Health (572 Coleman St., Waxahachie, TX 75165).

Community members are invited to “vote” for their favorite department by showing up to the event and having car seats inspected. Each car seat inspected will count as one vote for that location!

More than just a showdown of strength and skill, Battle of the Badges is a chance to support a great cause. Motor vehicle crashes are a leading cause of death and injuries among children. A National Highway Traffic Safety Administration study found that while most parents and caregivers believe they know how to correctly install their car seats, about half (46%) have installed their child’s car seat incorrectly. This event helps extend the reach of health, safety, and community education initiatives in Ellis County.

“Battle of the Badges is a fun way to honor our first responders and bring the community together,” said Danae Hicks, Program Specialist for Family & Community Health. “But more importantly, it raises awareness and supports child passenger safety and the local technicians that serve families across the county.”

Come out, show your support, and find out: Who will win bragging rights this year—Ennis Fire or Waxahachie Police Department?
