A Place to Plant Plus: offering handcrafted wooden containers – and more

Looking for some unique containers for your plants? Look no further than A Place to Plant Plus at the Waxahachie Farmers Market.
“We hand-make wooden planters,” owner Nikki Martin Kellet said. “We do make other things, but this is our main product.”
Kellet’s booth features shelves of unique containers, each reflective of the unique piece of wood from which it was lovingly handcrafted. Many of them are displayed with succulents, which are Kellet’s favorite plants for use.
“You don’t have to water succulents as much,” she said. “All you do is put a rock in the bottom and good dirt and plant your succulent. They’re beautiful.”
She also suggests herbs as another plant that’s complementary to her wood containers.
“They only have to be watered like once a week,” she said, noting that the containers have each been sealed.
The genesis of her small business occurred when the family was cutting down trees on their property. She was looking at all of the branches – and an idea was born.
Besides plant containers, Kellett also sells small wooden toys and other wooden handcrafted items at her booth, which she has set up at the farmers market year-round.
In the future, she’d also like to try going to a vendor show sometime.
“I think my product is good enough for that, and people like them,” she said.
And while the sales are always nice, the best part of being at the farmers market has been the camaraderie and the opportunity to meet people, she said.
